Q1: What are the school's hours? A1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:30am-3:40pm; Wednesday 8:30am-2:40pm. Q2: What is your tardy/absence policy? A2: Students can/will be marked tardy/late at 8:31am. The truancy officer will be contacted if students are tardy/absent three days in a row, or if they have a pattern of tardiness or absences (ie, once-a-week, being picked up early often, etc.). Q3: If it's a half-day, what time will students be dismissed? A3: 11:40am Q4: Will my student have homework? A4: Homework is required for all classes. See the Homework tab on this website. Q5: What does the school uniform look like? A5: Girls: Yellow button-down shirt or yellow polo shirt, green plaid jumper/skirt or navy pants, green plaid or navy cross-ties Boys: Yellow button-down shirt or yellow polo shirt, navy pants, navy blazers (optional), green plaid or navy ties. See pictures below. Q6: Will my student get free lunch? A6: All students at Coleman A. Young will receive a free lunch and breakfast, but you must come to school on time to eat breakfast. Q7: Do you offer special education programs? A7: We have 2 self-contained special education classrooms (learning disabled and cognitively impaired). We also have a resource teacher, a speech consultant, a school social worker, and OT/PT teachers if needed. All special education placement does need to go through, and be approved by, the Special Education department (not by school secretaries or the Principal). Q8: What extra curricular activities do you offer? A8: Sports (depending on the season and staffing), "It's A Girl Thing" literacy group, Robotics, Cool Chemistry, Imagination Station, Reading Recovery Q9: What kinds of technology do you have? A9: Every classroom has 2-4 student desktops, and an Interactive white-board. We also have a fully-functional computer lab, and 2 large carts full of netbooks (kind of like a small laptop), as well as tablets. Every classroom is required to have their own website too!
